It’s the holiday season, and there are plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit around the Triangle area or as part of a festive day trip. Get ready to spread joy and cheer when you make plans to enjoy some of the events the Rivertown Buick GMC team has rounded up for you.

12 Days of Christmas at The Carolina Inn

Where: The Carolina Inn, 211 Pittsboro Street, Chapel Hill

When: Dates and times vary

Returning for its 19th year, The Carolina Inn celebrates the Christmas season with decorations inspired by the traditional song. There’s something for everyone this year, including the 14th Annual Gingerbread House Display (December 1-January 2), Holiday Afternoon Teas (December 1-31; reservations required), and of course an appearance by jolly old St. Nick himself (December 11, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24; reservations required for breakfast or brunch events).


Holiday on Ice

Where: NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza, 400 East Martin Luther King Blvd, Charlotte 

When: Weekdays 5-10 PM; Saturdays 10 AM-10 PM; Sundays 11 AM-7PM (holiday hours vary)

News Talk 1110/99.3 WBT and 107.9 The Link present Charlotte’s only outdoor ice skating rink for its 13th year. Admission starts at $10 if you have your own pair of skates, and the rink can also be booked for birthday parties, office get-togethers, and other private events.


39th Annual Santa Train

Where: Museum of Life & Science, 433 W. Murray Avenue, Durham

When: December 8-11, 15-21

Climb aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway for a festive ride to the North Pole to meet Santa and his elves. The Station will also feature a variety of holiday-themed activities, including face painting by Paint Savvy, “Science of Santa” activities, and complimentary hot cocoa.


45th Annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour®

Where: Historic Oakwood - Tucker House (starting location), 418 N. Person Street, Raleigh

When: December 10-11

Take a trip back in time as you tour 100-year-old Victorian homes and beautiful gardens bedecked in traditional holiday decorations. This self-guided tour allows you to visit the properties at your own pace while learning about the people who called them home.
